Visa Requirements

When you are admitted to Montagna Alpine College you will be mailed a letter of admission and an Immigration Form for Citizenship and Immigration Canada so that you may apply for a Study Permit to study in Canada. When you take this document to a Canadian embassy, consulate or high commission, you will also be asked for proof of financial support and completion of a medical examination.

All international students must have a valid Study Permit (SP) to study in Canada. The cost of a Study Permit is approximately $125 CAD.

Most students receive a SP when they first enter Canada, for example at the Vancouver International Airport. An Immigration official gives the student the SP after signing, dating, and stamping the document. Sometimes this SP specifies certain terms and conditions about the student's stay in Canada, such as how long one can study or at what type of educational institution one may study.

Those doing work placement as part of their course will receive a second visa granting them permission to work under the guidelines of their academic course.

If a student is asked by the Government of Canada to attend an interview before a Study Permit can be issued.

  • This interview will be in English.
  • Be prepared to explain how your studying in Canada will benefit you in your home country.
  • Bring proof that you want to return and not stay in Canada after your studies.

Many students also require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) before they can enter Canada. Students must apply for the TRV when they apply for a SP at a Canadian Embassy. The cost of a Temporary Resident Visa is approximately $150 CAD for a multiple entry visa, and $75 for a single entry visa. Students should check the Citizenship and Immigration website to determine if they require a TRV.
